Visit Canarias & T’ART – Trips in the Arts of present, <\/b>two creators who participated in the fifth edition of the Pilot Program, <\/b>interviewed each other during one of the Pilots in Talk.<\/b> Ivana, Marco and Gianni<\/b> met live in the Apical’s FB Community<\/b> to meet and talk about their projects.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The projects <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Gianni<\/strong>: I come from a history of experiences mainly related to the body part <\/b>. I have been working now for 30 years with shiatsu<\/b>, including in water (hot, thermal, etc.). I taught it and had a school. I did many, many years of theater <\/b>that later resulted in a path of theater therapy<\/b>. Then, I combined what has been my main passion and my work as a photographer<\/b> (when I was younger) and curator of contemporary art<\/b>, which has given me great pleasure for the past 7 years. I am trying to bring together in this project, T’ART, the experiences of bodily well-being (which I call present-day art, which can range from yoga to surfing) and the search for the well-being that the beauty and knowledge of contemporary art can give. <\/b>[…] Bringing together what are consciously transformative arts is critical. My project goes in that direction: to have experiences through art but also through more bodily arts.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Marco<\/strong>: Ever since I was a child, I have played sports, and that was the reason I am here today to tell you about our project. When I was six years old I started with skiing […] then I started going to the pool and as a teenager I started trying the gym. I always gave up these disciplines and came to the conclusion that. I am not meant to be inside a structure. I like being outdoors, experiencing nature, and I like sports with a high adrenaline content.<\/b> […] I then began to have a passion for the sea. Whenever I had a chance, with my uncle and cousin we would set off together to sail along the coast of Lazio and the Pontine Islands. Later we took a sailing <\/b>course and from there the real passion for the sea<\/b> began. Over time, I looked for people near me who shared the same passions as me<\/b>. So I started with kitesurfing<\/b> and then surfing <\/b>while traveling around the world. I started shooting for waves and wind. This was kind of my stepping stone into water sports, which are the ones I still enjoy the most and practice daily. Lastly, I practiced stand-up paddling<\/b>. Later, with friends with whom we shared this passion, we decided to organize wave sub camps<\/b>. We created our first sub surf camp in Lanzatote and thought “why not stay here? There is everything we like” and so we organized and moved there. We pursued this project. However, I wanted to differentiate myself from what we were doing before<\/b>. Initially we were organizing camps; in addition to the technical part we were doing hikes and all those things that pretty much everyone does, standard<\/b>. Then I met Ivana, a <\/b>yoga teacher, is we wanted to organize camps in a different way: more focused on the local area, on the goodies of the place that no one knows about<\/b>, like hiking trails in volcanoes or barbecues at night on the beach. All this creates an atmosphere similar to the way we live. What we wanted to convey to people was our passion for both the sea and our lifestyle.<\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ivana<\/strong>: I am a yoga teacher<\/b>. I have always played sports; I just played them all for a short time because they made me feel good but there was something missing. Certainly, as with Marco, this was a chance to play an outdoor sport and be completely present in the nature around you<\/b>. Especially when it comes to water sports, the power of the ocean is something you can feel, it makes itself felt while you are having fun<\/b>. So I started to try, since I love the sea and my passion for it was born with me. I am privileged because I am Sicilian. I had my first approach to a water sport activity, surfing, when I was 16\/17 years old. It went horribly wrong because of a physical obstacle, nearsightedness. After a few years surgery was done and it was successful: there the meeting with Marco. It opened up the possibility for me to try whatever sport was on my mind. <\/p>\n

When you make wishes as a child, they may not come true!<\/b><\/p>\n

Our project aims to enable travelers who want to travel with us to fulfill their personal journey<\/b>. Today the traveler no longer travels without a real goal<\/b>; the conscious traveler has the goal of changing something in his or her life<\/b>. So we would like to accompany the traveler on this journey of growth, of life, by simply designing ad hoc itineraries and activities that allow him or her to go through the experience in the most carefree and easy way possible<\/b>. Simply by sharing what our life is; we do not show something that does not belong to us, but we show our passions<\/b>. Our goal is to make our passions our work, but not only that. It is not just a course, a sport discipline. There is so much more that is connected to the territory in which these activities take place, namely the Canarian archipelago. <\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The obstacles <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Gianni: What were the obstacles for this path?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Ivana<\/strong>: Obstacles… I am an islander, so I don’t go and criticize islanders. However, if we have encountered obstacles I can only trace them to the fact that it is not easy for islanders that an island is somehow completely filled with foreigners<\/b>. They experience what is no longer allowed somewhere else: being able to devote themselves simultaneously to work and passions. They are somewhat jealous and attached to what belongs to them. Although we are now fully integrated and friends, if I have to think of any obstacles, honestly, there was only this one. <\/p>\n

Mark<\/strong>: Experiencing the territory as a foreigner in our opinion initially caused problems. Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands where you still breathe the island air, you still find the native person. Unlike Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which are much more developed. To have joined Apical, even in this respect, was a good thing because we had the idea of showing the territory but not in such a concrete way as it was later with Apical. It means that we have now decided to work exclusively with local companies: all our employees are local employees, and we are going to boost the islands’ domestic economy. <\/b>Starting with sports activities, we rely on collaborators chosen by us according to certain quality parameters. Both on the sports part and on what are all the complementary services, so accommodations, rentals, (car, motorcycle or moutain bike, etc.) and everything a traveler needs when he or she arrives on site. Apical, where we promote sustainability and a responsible kind of tourism, made us say<\/b>, “okay, let’s try to work exclusively with local people and grow the local economy in whatever kind of service we’re going to offer people<\/b>.” Now is the right time to be able to leave and be stronger than before.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Gianni<\/strong>: My main obstacle <\/b>is to make people understand that contemporary art is something transformative and important for everyone<\/b>. What does that mean? It means that we have art around us every day and we don’t notice it because we take it for granted. It doesn’t even take us a few seconds of thinking about it to realize that there are some people behind it. Maybe, instead, if you go inside a facility such as a museum or a theme park, you pay more attention and therefore perceive something different and can have your own bodily experience.<\/b> I thought, for example, a watsu experience that I will offer in Tuscany, where there is a park dedicated to a French artist called Niki de Saint Phalle, in which there are large and colorful sculptures. If you go in there you can understand that you can take within yourself the experience that this artist had and you can bring it within something that is more related to body movement, water dance, etc. This is a transforming experience: you come out of two to three immersive days, go home and start thinking and living in a different way. <\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
